Getting it running

How do I start? Subscribe to VAM 2.0 on the Steam Workshop, start Conan Exiles Enhanced and turn the mod on in the game's mod list. Play alone, or join a server from the server list – the game downloads the mod for you. In the game, press Shift+P. Server admins add Workshop ID 3809527607 to the server's mod list.

Does VAM work on the Isle of Siptah? Yes. Valkyries, the ancient bosses and the rocknose minibosses appear on the Exiled Lands and on the Isle of Siptah.

Single player or server? Both. Server admins find every number on the Admin page of the Shift+P window (VAM 2.0 Systems), with presets for Solo, Server and Hardcore.

Does it work with other mods? VAM changes only three small vanilla files – two ore materials and the inventory tile – so it sits well next to most mods. Mods that replace the interface go before content mods in the load order. Mods below VAM in the list override VAM. If something breaks, halve the list and test.

Can I use it together with Wings of Valhalla? VAM uses the mod folder name Valkyrian_Lands. Mods that use the same name – for example the current Wings of Valhalla file – cannot be loaded together with it. Pick one.

"Mod Mismatch", or the mod stays old? Client and server need the same version. Unsubscribe, wait until the mod folder is empty, subscribe again and restart the game.

Is this the VAM from before Enhanced? Do I still need VAM_Storage? VAM 2.0 is a new Workshop item (ID 3809527607) for Conan Exiles Enhanced. The original VAM was built for the old engine; mods from that time do not load in Enhanced without being rebuilt. VAM 2.0 takes over the themed storage chests and the other systems of VAM_Storage, so you only need VAM 2.0 – unsubscribe from the old VAM and from VAM_Storage. Carrying an old world over has not been tested: chests, items and buildings from the old mods may be missing, so keep a backup or start a new world.

Will updates break my world? Updates are made to keep existing worlds and characters. When an update has to change saved data, the update notes say so at the top – for example 0.0.15 restarted professions for everyone, and 0.0.19 converted purses and auction offers and removed the old VAM map parts. Retired stations and recipes were switched off for crafting rather than deleted, so pieces already built stayed in the world. Always back up your server or single-player save before you update.

Progression

Is Ouroboros on by default? Yes. Rebirth (Ouroboros) is switched on by default. Admins can turn it off on the Overview page of the Admin page (Shift+P). A cycle can be completed at the maximum level – 100, unless the server changed it.

Which XP settings do you recommend? There is no official recommended XP setting. VAM's own balance numbers assume the game's default XP multipliers (1.0): levels 1 to 60 need about 1.3 times the vanilla experience, and the default maximum level 100 needs about 59.5 million experience in total. If you want faster or slower levelling, change the game's own XP multipliers in the server settings. VAM's Admin page adds its own values on top, for example the maximum level (60 to 900) with Experience per Level above 100, and a cap on all kill XP bonuses.

Can the maximum level go above 150? In this version, yes: admins can set 60 to 900. For a high maximum, lower Experience per Level above 100 (%) – suggested 50 % at level 300 and 25 % at level 900.

My attribute book does nothing. Books only work while all your attribute points stay within 2.4 per character level (144 at level 60 on a standard server). The book stays in your bag and names the level at which it will work.

The attribute perk at 30 or 40 is missing. Perks count only the points you spent yourself; points from gear do not count.

Professions and crafting

Why is Smithing so slow? Smith XP comes only from crafting time at smithing benches – furnaces count for Miner. To speed it up: set other professions to Held so their banked XP boosts your rising profession, take the Ouroboros card Mimir's Well, or redeem a Sealed Card: Mimir's Pupil (Shift+P › Inspiration).

Placing building pieces gives no Builder XP. That is how it works. Builder XP comes from crafting at stations that do not belong to another profession, for example the Wheel of Pain or altars.

A profession level is held back although I have XP. Your pool of 250 levels is full, or another profession is already above 90. Your XP is kept. Use the arrows on the Professions page: set one profession to Lowering to make room.

How do I stop a profession from levelling? Click its arrow on the Professions page until it says Held. It keeps its level and banks its XP.

My Journeyman's Letter says there is no room. In this version a letter also works with a full pool – it takes the room from professions set to Lowering. Set one to Lowering and use the letter again.

Brewing gives Murky Sludge. That is not a fault. Two ingredients that share no effect make Murky Sludge. Recipes are never given; you find them by brewing. Firewater, Oil and Blood need an empty Glass Flask instead of a water-filled one.

How do I light a VAM Furnace? Like the vanilla furnace: put fuel in and switch it on. The new model shows no flames or glow while it is running yet, so it can look off even when it is smelting. If it really does not smelt, post a screenshot of the furnace inventory.

Why do gold veins give silver? In VAM, silver is the everyday currency and gold is rare, so gold veins give silverstone. Goldstone comes from Gold Mines on territories. In this version Goldstone smelts into gold bars again at the furnace (3 Goldstone → 1 Gold Bar, no talent needed). Gold bars can no longer be cast into coins; gold coins come from bosses and from Nekhti of Luxur, a rare foe among the Darfari and the Amazons.

Does gold from other mods count? VAM pays in the vanilla coins – gold, silver and bronze. Coins from other mods count only if they are these vanilla coins. VAM does not count another mod's own currency.

Why does my bench ignore some boxes? Benches and PvE building reach into boxes up to 40 m away; admins can raise that range for the whole server. Benches only use boxes owned by you or your clan.

Where is the Rune Anvil? The talent Rune Smith (level 40, needs Smith level 30) teaches the Rune Forge and the Rune Anvil.

My rune will not go into a ring or bag. Accessories take no runes in this version; the rune comes back into your bag.

Gear with an old rune keeps decaying. Put the item on the Rune Anvil once (if it is already there, take it off and back on).

World

The Bounty Board keeps my heads without paying. You reached the daily cap – 400 tokens from heads and contracts on a standard server. The count resets at 04:00 server time. A stack whose full value no longer fits today's rest comes back into your backpack; only when your backpack is full does it stay on the board.

I can't build a market stall or bounty board any more. In this version only admins place them. Stalls and boards you built earlier stay. On the Exiled Lands use the market stall and the bounty board in Sepermeru; on the Isle of Siptah ask your admin.

Where is the Territories window? Clan window › Territories › Open the war table – or press E at a War Table.

For admins

I don't see the Admin page. Click Make Me Admin in the game settings, enter the admin password and open Shift+P again. Repeat after every relog or restart. MakeMeAdmin sent through RCON does not open the Admin page.

dc vam opens the festival page. While a festival runs and today's gift is waiting, the window opens the festival tab first. Click the Admin medallion.

Can I let players master every profession? Yes: raise Profession level pool to 600 and switch Only one master profession off (VAM 2.0 Systems › PROFESSIONS).

Can I ban items or recipes? Not in this version. The Crafting Blacklist page only takes items out of the quality roll.

Can I switch the Valkyries off? You can switch the Valkyrie raid off. A switch for all Valkyries in the world is not in this version.

The Breeding time setting does nothing. It does in this version; before, it had no effect. If you changed it earlier, your players feel it for the first time after the update.

A level mod and VAM – which maximum level counts? VAM's. If another mod changes the maximum level, VAM sets it back to its own value within about half a minute. If you want a maximum above 100, set it on VAM's own LEVELS tab (60 to 900).

Known issues in this version

• Players who do not want the new HUD can switch it off: Shift+P › HUD › VAM HUD: Off (Funcom HUD).
• An open clan treasury window shows new deposits right away.
• Journeyman's Letters work with a full profession pool.
• Advanced VAM benches no longer give more back than they cost when you craft and dismantle.
• VAM workbenches have a thrall slot again.
• Valkyrian bears show their names and can be hit.
• Bags and rings no longer take runes at the Rune Anvil; when an item already holds a rune of the same kind, the anvil now says so; Rune Blades and the Rune Pick cost at most half their bars to repair.
• Armor gets a crafting quality again.
• The Elixir of Rebirth no longer deletes drill stages; the Token of Death lands in your backpack; the Rune drops switch works.
• The Bounty Board takes heads again after an admin changed the list.
• Mailbox: subject, text and gold get the keyboard focus.
• Territories: VAM dishes count as rations; pledged thralls no longer come back as a copy.
• Patch 3.1.0: the new Serpentman Heart is no longer hidden by VAM's harvest row.
• No VAM creature is weaker than its vanilla model any more.

Reporting a bug

1. Go to vam.valkyriangaming.com/report (or the VAM Discord).
2. Say what happened, how we can make it happen again, where you play (single player, co-op, dedicated server) and which other mods you use.
3. Add screenshots and the log file: ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs\ConanSandbox.log in the game folder (Steam: right-click the game › Manage › Browse local files) or in the server folder. Send it right after the problem – the game renames it to ConanSandbox-backup-…log at the next start. After a crash, zip the newest folder in ConanSandbox\Saved\Crashes.

You can write in any language, and you get a private link to follow your report.
