In short

VAM's Valkyries live among the vanilla factions on both maps; their Primarchs, Mistresses and Ymir's daughters are rare bosses and the main source of Valkyrie armor. Seven ancient bosses wake in Funcom's boss spawns, and their figurines can call them back at the Sunken Pool of the Ancients. The Bounty Board in Sepermeru pays Valkyrian Tokens for heads and contracts. You trade at the Auction House and send letters, items and coins by mail, and Heartstones take you home. Festivals bring a gift calendar to the Shift+P window – The Unchosen Nights run until 30 November.

Valkyries

Where they live. Valkyries fight in the camps of the vanilla factions. Which kind you meet depends on the camp:

Vanilla campValkyrie
Votaries, Obsidian OnesLava Valkyrie
Heirs of the North (fighters), InvadersMountain Valkyrie
Heirs of the North (archers), ExilesValkyrie, Guardian (archer)
Relic Hunter plunderers, CorsairsDesert Valkyrie

Forgotten TribeFallen Valkyrie
  • On the Isle of Siptah they stand among the Obsidian Ones, Invaders, Corsairs, Exiles and Accursed. The Accursed bring Plague, Blood and Fallen Valkyries.
  • New in this version: more Valkyries fight in the camps of their lands.
  • Undead Valkyries – archers, warriors and a captain – rise among the wights.
  • Valkyries in vanilla camps are not attacked by the camp's own people.

Rare bosses. Primarchs, Ymir's daughters and the Mistresses lead the Valkyries:

  • Primarchs: Valkyrie, Desert, Fallen, Jungle, Lava and Mountain Primarch, and Sema the Blood Primarch.
  • Ymir's daughters: Ymir's Happiness, Innocence, Passion, Serenity, Sorrow and Strength.
  • Mistresses: Mistress Deia, Carmen the Plague Mistress, Gabriella the Blood Mistress.

They wait at the leader and champion places of the camps.

Their loot

  • Every Primarch, Mistress and daughter of Ymir drops a Valkyrian Armor Crate – one random armor piece. Ordinary Valkyries do not.
  • On top, a set chest of a Valkyrie armor set: 50 % from Carmen the Plague Mistress, Mistress Deia and Sema the Blood Primarch, 25 % from the other Primarchs, Gabriella the Blood Mistress and Ymir's daughters.
  • Set guarantee: after 3 duplicate set chests in a row, the next duplicate turns into a chest of a set you do not have yet.
  • Head of a Valkyrie: always from Ymir's six daughters, often from other Valkyries. Press it in a Fluid Press for 4 Sacred Valkyrian Blood – the blood, not the head, goes into mythical blueprints, undead Valkyrie thralls, the Tamed Valkyrian Bear and more.

Valkyrie raids. Most priests of Ymir are Valkyrie priestesses. Kill one at Ymir's shrines and her sisters may come for you: a war band of 2 to 4 Valkyries, sometimes led by a Primarch. On a standard server this happens in half of the cases, only to players of level 30 and up, and the same player is then safe for 45 minutes. Your HUD shows the raid warning "Her sisters ride for you".

Capturing Valkyries – the Rune Prison

Valkyries can be taken as thralls like other humans: knock one out, drag her home and break her.

  • Rune Prison: VAM's own prison for Valkyries. It comes with the talent Rune enhanced Enslaving (Hunter level 60, 7 points; it also teaches the runeforged truncheons). It costs 200 Hardened Steel Bars, 20 Valkyrian Shards, 200 Steel Reinforcement and 150 Twine, and it needs a Taskmaster in its thrall slot.
  • Funcom's Wheels of Pain take Valkyries too in this version.
  • Every regular Valkyrie becomes the same Valkyrie fighter thrall; the kinds differ only a little in starting attributes. A captured Primarch has a higher stat tier and keeps the extra health of an elite.
  • Valkyries cannot be drilled (see Thralls and Animals).

The ancient bosses

The seven Ancients: Ancient Dragon, Ancient Rotbranch, Ancient Hive Queen, Holy Serpent, Ancient Crocodile, Ancient Scorpion King and Ancient Spider Queen. They wake now and then in Funcom's boss spawns – the spot of the vanilla boss of their kind. When one awakens and when it falls, every player gets a notice (admins can switch that off).

The rocknose kings: Vanir, Pure Jade, Unholy Ice, Lava Stone, Lysanthir and Urghat Rocknose – rare in the vanilla rocknose king spawns.

Their loot (example: Ancient Dragon)

  • its head, always – worth 30 tokens at the Bounty Board (a rocknose king's head 15);
  • three rolls on the loot crates, 3 to 8 gold coins, a lore page (50 %) and now and then a Greater Attribute Book (5 %);
  • its figurine (20 %).

The Ancient Hive Queen can also drop a Crystalized Hive Queen Heart and the Holy Serpent a Crystalized Serpent Heart (20 % each); the Rotbranch always drops 20 to 40 Elder Wood. Gold coins come only from these bosses and from Nekhti of Luxur, a rare foe among the Darfari and the Amazons.

Figurines. There are 13: one for each rocknose king and each Ancient. The Ancient Crocodile, Scorpion and Spider Figurines can also be crafted with the Builder talent Hall of Statuary (level 98) from the beast's remains (Elder Crocodile Head, Elder Scorpion Carcass or Elder Spider Carcass), 5 Impure Crystal, 100 Stone and 120 Valkyrian Tokens; the other ten come only as loot. The Ancient Crocodile, Scorpion and Spider Figurines show their own statuettes when you place them.

The Sunken Pool of the Ancients

  1. Find the pool in the southern desert, not far from the crosses where the exiles wake. The figurine text tells you where.
  2. Offer a figurine there. The pool takes all 13; anything else stays in your backpack.
  3. Its beast rises – be ready to fight it.

The Bounty Board

Where it starts: the board stands in Sepermeru, in front of the south gate. Players cannot build bounty boards or market stalls any more – admins place extra boards (see For Admins). Boards and stalls you built earlier stay. On the Isle of Siptah there is no fixed board – only boards an admin placed.

Heads. Every head you hand in pays Valkyrian Tokens and raises your bounty rank:

HeadTokens
Ordinary beasts1
Kings and alphas3
Bosses5
Rocknose kings15
Ancients30

Contracts

  • The board offers contracts; you hold one at a time.
  • A contract worth 40 tokens or more locks its target for you for 12 hours.
  • Higher contract tiers open at character level 40 and 70, and pay 10 % more tokens for every 10 levels above the tier's start (at most +50 %).

The daily cap. You can earn at most 400 tokens a day from heads and contracts together; the count resets at 04:00 server time.

  • A stack of heads is only taken when its full value still fits today's rest; otherwise the board hands it back.
  • A finished contract that no longer fits keeps its tokens and stays active until 04:00.

Ranks and shop. There are 60 ranks. The board's shop sells for tokens, and its wares open by rank.

The Leaderboard. With the talent Trade you can build a Leaderboard at the Artisan's Worktable (100 Hardened Brick, 20 Iron Bars, 5 Gold Bars). Its ten plaques show the top 10 of a server ranking; hold E to pick category and period. Its two stone bowls now burn with small warm flames, so you find it at night. The rankings themselves are on the Rankings tab of the Shift+P window.

Trade – the Auction House

The Auction House: the list of offers and an item's buy-or-bid page

Where it starts: at a market stall – the fixed one in Sepermeru or one an admin placed. On the Isle of Siptah there is no fixed stall.

  1. List an item for a fixed price or as an auction. Listing costs 1 % up front, at least 1 silver.
  2. Search the offers, bid or buy.
  3. A sale pays into your purse, minus the Auction House fee (5 % on a standard server).

Prices are in gold, silver and bronze (1 G = 100 S, 1 S = 10 B). Type them into the G | S | B fields – 140 S turns into 1 G 40 S by itself.

Rules on a standard server

  • An overbid must be at least 5 % higher (at least 1 S). The first bid of an auction must be at least half the asking price.
  • Up to 20 offers per player, each for 7 days. Unsold items come back by letter.
  • An offer over your limit or above the highest price is refused before any fee – the item stays with you.
  • The market details show the weight of the whole stack.

The purse. Your purse at the Auction House and at mailboxes holds coins of every kind, weighs nothing and pays first. Coins in your bag cover the rest; change goes back into the purse. Gold coins leave the purse only up to the gold you put in, the rest is paid in silver. Vanilla traders only take coins from your bag. Deposit takes the amount you enter – an empty field deposits all.

Allies trade for free. Allied clans pay no Auction House fee (see Clans and Territories). Valkyrian Tokens cannot be sold here.

Mail

  • Every character can build a Mailbox at the Artisan's Worktable (50 Iron Bars, 5 Hardened Steel Bars, 1 Blood Crystal).
  • A letter arrives at once, even when the recipient is offline. It carries up to six item slots and coins; coins go straight into the recipient's purse.
  • You send and fetch letters only within 15 metres of a mailbox, one letter per second.
  • A player whose mailbox already holds 200 letters gets no more letters from other players.
  • Empty letters are kept 30 days; a letter that still holds items stays until you take them.
  • If your backpack is full, whatever does not fit stays in the letter.
  • Sending costs nothing.

The bank – what VAM means by it

VAM has no personal bank and pays no interest. When players say "bank", they mean one of two clan things:

  • the clan treasury in the Bank tab of the clan window – coins of the whole clan;
  • the clan bank of the territories – goods that your territory buildings deliver.

Both are explained in Clans and Territories.

Travel

The old hub and its portals are gone. Heartstones take you home:

  1. The first use binds the stone to the spot where you stand.
  2. Every later use brings you back there.
  3. After each journey the stone needs 30 minutes to recover.
StoneUsesRecipe (Thaumaturgy Bench)

Heartstoneten times2 Sorcerous Reagents + 1 Star Metal Bar + 3 Crystal + 1 Demon Blood
Permanent Heartstonefor good1 Heartstone + 20 Sorcerous Reagents + 10 Star Metal Bars + 1 Mythical Power Crystal
  • The recipes come with the Sorcery talent Heartstone Binding (level 60, 10 points, needs Basic Sorcery) – or with the Builder stage at Builder level 60.
  • Builders can buy Heartstones in the profession shop from Builder level 30.
  • Your level-10 gift is a Heartstone, and it comes again in every Ouroboros cycle.
  • For routes your clan shares, build Transportory Stones as in the base game.

Festivals

While a festival runs, the Shift+P window has its own festival tab (after Rankings). Shift+P opens on it while tonight's gift is still waiting.

The Unchosen Nights – 31 October to 30 November

A message tells every player when the festival begins ("The Unchosen Nights have begun.") and ends ("The dead lie down again.").

The Thirty-One Candles

  1. Open Shift+P – the festival tab The Thirty-One Candles.
  2. Light tonight's candle. Its gift goes straight into your backpack; each candle carries a short note from the dead.
  3. Missed a night? You can light every past candle until the festival ends. Unlit candles are gone after 30 November.

The greater gifts

NightGift
7Colored Candles – teaches candles in green, blue, purple, cyan and red
14Bat-Demon Warpaint
21Grave Colors – teaches six dyes at the Dyer's Bench: Bone White, Grave Moss, Vein Crimson, Moonless Black, Corpse-Candle Green and Ashen Violet (each from a Water-filled Glass Flask and Grave Wax)
28Ossuary Decor – impaled skulls and a decorative metal skull
31Grave-Whelp – set it down and a Barrow Hound rises to follow you
  • Grave Wax for the dyes comes in nights 19, 22 and 26.
  • Ghost Steel (nights 10 and 20) and Seasonal Seeds (night 25) are seasonal finds. No recipe uses them yet – master smiths and provisioners prize them.
  • Festival recipes are learned only through the gifts and crafted only while the festival runs. What you build stays.
  • The festival has no fights.

Ymir's Long Night – 1 December to 6 January

From 1 December the festival tab becomes The Twenty-Four Doors: one door opens each night with a gift. Doors 6, 13 and 20 first ask for a deed – sending a gift by post, sharing a meal at a Feast Table, and setting up the Ember-Log. Behind door 24 waits the Midwinter Stag, which stays with you. You can open missed doors until 6 January.

  • Feast Table (80 Wood + 20 Plant Fiber, learned during the festival): press E at it with cooked food in your bag to share a meal; your clan within 10 metres feasts with you.
  • Some doors hold a Trophy of the Wild Hunt – keep it.
  • Frost Silver (doors 8 and 16) and Seasonal Seeds (door 12) are seasonal finds.
  • Ember-Log (80 Wood + 20 Plant Fiber, learned from night 20): set it up and it burns through the twelve nights from night 25. Clan members who come within 30 metres of their clan's burning log get Hearth-Luck – 5 % more experience from kills for 24 hours, renewed each night. When the nights are over, press E at it to gather Ember-Ash, which you stir into Potent Compost for your planters.

The Turning of the Year – 31 December to 1 January

A message one minute before the turn ("The year turns in one minute.") and one after it ("The year has turned. May the new one be kind to you.").

Tips

  • Hunt the leaders of Valkyrie camps for armor: every Primarch, Mistress and daughter of Ymir drops a Valkyrian Armor Crate.
  • Keep every boss head. Ancients pay 30 tokens, rocknose kings 15 – but watch the daily cap of 400.
  • Keep figurines – they are your ticket to fight an Ancient again at the Sunken Pool.
  • Bind your Heartstone at home before you use it anywhere else.
  • Light your candle every night of The Unchosen Nights – night 31 brings the pet.
