Levels and perks

• Thralls and pets level up to 40 on a standard server (vanilla: 20). Admins can set the maximum between 20 and 100; thralls above a lowered maximum keep their level.
• They roll six perks on the way, at levels 10, 15, 20, 30, 35 and 40. The follower window shows all of them.
• Above 40 there are no more perk rolls; every level needs a little more experience than the one before.

Attribute perks for leaders (see Progression):

• Valkyrie's Call (Authority 30): followers deal 10 % more damage – not together with the vanilla perk War Party I.
• Lord of the Einherjar (Authority 40): followers have 15 % more health.

Thrall Drill

Where it starts: press E at a human thrall who follows you; the Follower window opens.

1. Find the line Shieldmaiden Drill: none of III and the button Train Drill I - 50 S.
2. Click it. The price is paid from your purse first, then from the coins in your backpack.
3. "Drill complete - your follower is tougher now." The follower gets the perk Shieldmaiden Drill I.
4. Repeat for Drill II and III.

• Only human followers can be drilled. Valkyries and animals cannot.
• The health bonus also follows later level-ups.
• New in this version: an Elixir of Rebirth (which rerolls a thrall's perks) no longer deletes drill stages – the stage comes back right after the reroll. Stages lost before this version are not refunded.

Valkyries as thralls

• Every regular Valkyrie becomes the same Valkyrie fighter thrall. All kinds start with the same Strength and Vitality and differ only a little in the other attributes: the plain Valkyrie has the most Grit, Blood, Plague and Fallen Valkyries have the most Agility, the Jungle Valkyrie the least.
• Archer Valkyries (Guardians) become archer thralls and roll archer perks.
• The best Valkyrie fighter is a Primarch: a higher stat tier, more armor, and she keeps the extra health of an elite.
• Valkyrie followers show their perk icons.

The Taskmaster. The Rune Prison needs a Taskmaster in its thrall slot (a vanilla or VAM taskmaster). VAM's own taskmasters are Valkyries – Gendalf (Desert), Em (Fallen), Tecno (Jungle), Taci (Lava) and Nevarth (Mountain); they also work at Wheels of Pain, the Torturer's Worktable and animal pens.

Crafter thralls at VAM benches

• New in this version: the simple and advanced VAM Armorer's Bench, Furnace, Stove, Tannery, Artisan Table and Alchemy Bench have a thrall slot again; Carpentry and Blacksmith already had one. So the VAM furnace takes a smelter again. The Simple VAM Religion Station has no thrall slot.
• A crafter thrall at the station lowers the quality roll by 5 % per thrall tier, up to 20 % at tier 4 – every tier above Junk becomes 25 % more likely (see Professions and Crafting). Valkyrie thralls count as tier 4 here.
• Known gaps: at VAM benches the bonus text of a VAM thrall can stay empty, and a crafter may stand with his back to the bench. Both are cosmetic.

Breeding

Where it starts: the Hunter profession. Each stage opens breeding talents:

How breeding works

1. Build a pen. The Rocknose Farm (100 Hardened Brick, 30 Insulated Wood, 50 Steel Reinforcement) and the Animal Breeding Cage (75 Stone, 100 Wood, 5 Twine) are in the build menu under Companions. Every breeding recipe except the Abyssal Steeds also works in vanilla animal pens ("Any Animal Pen"); Abyssal Steeds are bred only in the Stables.
2. Put in the young animal and what it needs, e.g. a Pebblenose and Stone for a Rocknose, or a Pebblenose and Crescent Ore for a Sapphire Rocknose.
3. Wait. The recipe sets the time – 1,200, 14,400 or 21,600 seconds (20 minutes, 4 or 6 hours) – and the pen makes it shorter or longer (see below).
4. The result is a pet item – place it like a thrall.

Good to know

• Pens breed at different speeds: the Rocknose Farm, the Animal Breeding Cage and the Armored Animal Pen are the fastest (0.8 × the recipe time), the Reinforced Animal Pen takes the recipe time, and the Animal Pen, the Small Animal Pen and the Stables are the slowest (1.5 ×).
• New in this version: the Animal Breeding Cage holds one animal, shown in its middle. Animals that were in its other pet slots are moved to the cage's output when the server starts – nothing is lost.
• New in this version: the admin setting Breeding time works now. It scales every pen on its own speed (50 % halves the time, 200 % doubles it).
• Rocknoses in the Rocknose Farm and the Animal Breeding Cage produce like in vanilla pens: they carry ore, and their dung becomes coal, obsidian, ice and more. Gem and alloy rocknoses now and then drop a nugget of their ore.
• The Dragon Lair can no longer be built.

Pets

• Bred animals are pet items (for example Moss Rocknose or Red Dragon). You place them like thralls, and they level up to 40 like thralls.
• The Valkyrian Pet Cage holds a random rare pet.
• Some level gifts are pets in your first cycle: the Lava Cat (71), the Valkyrian White Bear (74) and Deia's Pet Wolf (95).
• Festival pets: the Grave-Whelp (night 31 of The Unchosen Nights) – set it down and a Barrow Hound rises to follow you; the Midwinter Stag (door 24 of Ymir's Long Night).

Golems

• VAM adds ten golem lines – Copper, Bronze, Silver, Vanir, Urghat, Serpent, Lysanthir, Jade, Lava and Unholy Ice – with 14 parts each (head, torso, leg, arms), made at the vanilla Golem Workbench.
• Only a Valkyrie sculptor thrall can shape them. You cannot learn the part recipes yourself – capture a Valkyrie sculptor (a Stonecarver) and put her at the Golem Workbench. Each sculptor knows the 14 parts of one golem line. Each part names its own material in its text; a Copper Guardian Head, for example, takes 40 Copper Metal Bars, 50 Stone Consolidant, 5 Iron Reinforcement and 5 Glowing White Crystals.
• Elder golems: the 14 Elder Guardian parts are made at the Elder Forge (talent Elder Forging, see Professions and Crafting). The head, torso, leg and empty arm take a vanilla Crystalline Guardian part plus Steel Reinforcement, Alchemical Base and Elder Wood; each weapon arm takes an Elder Guardian Empty Arm and a Hardened Steel weapon; each Tar or Brimstone part takes an Elder Guardian head, torso or leg and 40 Tar or 100 Brimstone. New in this version: the Elder Guardian Tar Leg and the Brimstone Head, Torso and Leg can be crafted too.
• Incense works as in the base game.

Where the sculptors work: among the Valkyrie crafters in vanilla camps – with the Relic Hunters and Corsairs (Copper, Bronze and Serpent lines), the Lemurians and Corsairs (Silver, Lysanthir and Jade), the Heirs of the North and Invaders (Vanir and Unholy Ice), and the Votaries and Invaders (Urghat and Lava).

Micropets

• The talent Micropets (level 20, 3 points, needs Builder level 30) teaches 31 small placeable animals – kittens, cubs, pups, piglets, turtles and more – at the Artisan's Worktable, 10 seconds each.
• Example: Mister Nibbles, a tiny crocodile, from 20 Reptile Hide and 2 Fangs.
• Micropets need no food.

Tavern guests and special followers

• Once a vanilla tavern is open (an innkeeper thrall at the counter and seats), VAM's wandering guests come by: Brunhild, Sagrim, Ysolde, Grimnar, Hakon, Veleda and Thorvald. Each stays two to four hours. Svana comes too once you have rescued her.
• Cadmar of Poitain is a rare elite thrall with his own perks; the bounty contract The Knight Who Forgot leads to him.
• Hiring Svana or Cadmar counts for their quests.
• Thralls you pledge to your clan's garrison stay with the clan for good (see Clans and Territories).

Tips

• Drill your best human follower first – Drill III is +21 % health and damage for 1,050 silver in all.
• Valkyries for the front line, humans for drills: a Primarch is the strongest Valkyrie fighter, but only humans can be drilled.
• Put a crafter thrall at every bench that has a slot.

Common mistakes

Known issue in this version: from Hunter level 30 a weapon in your hand also harvests corpses (see Professions and Crafting). Loot first.
